Mya ran. She ran as fast as she could, holding a loaf of bread and a fish from a fish cart. She ran as the shouts of the guards, baker, and fisherman followed her.

She couldn't hear them anymore and she collided with someone. "How dare you wretch!"

Mya looked up at him. "I...I'm sorry...I..." she said softly.

The man smirked. "sure you are."

"But...I am....I...I didn't mean to run into you, sir....." she said, looking up at him.

Kale stood in the shadows of a nearby alley, only his violet eyes. He was only passing through when he caught site of Mya and the man. He could smell the cat in her, but he did care about an individual's species.

The man backhanded her and began to walk away laughing

Mya cried out, holding her cheek.

he laughed louder

Kale moved from the alley and grasped the man by the back of his head and lifted the man to his eye level. He growled softly at the man bearing his white fangs.

He smirked and threw him back breaking out of the hold. He bared his fangs as well. "Bad dog."

Mya looked between them scared.

He grinned at Mya and then back at Kale

Kale stood firm, unshaken. He remained silent, his eyes studied the one before him and he paid mind to his surroundings. The city did not have the same flow as the forests he dwelled in, he would have to be very wary.

He noticed the man resembled one of the leaders.

"Walk away." Kale said softly to the man.

Mya started to back away from the two men, hugging the fish and bread to her.

The man smirked. "Are you ordering me?"

"A warning." Kale replied.

He grinned. "I should be warning you pup."

Kale remained stone faced and silent, he had learned patience through the ages.

Mya rushed from the area scared.

She saw a tavern after awhile

Mya hurried into the tavern to hide. (Go down to the part below this with Alder)

When Kale was certain the young girl was safely away, he walked away from the man with his senses still on alert.

The man smirked and walked away

Alder walked through the streets with a sigh

"F...food sir?" asked a little boy.

Alder turned to look and crouched down so he was at eye level. He smiled kindly. "I am afraid I don't have any food on me but, I can treat you to dinner." He said with a smile holding out his hand.

"W...Weally?"

he smiled kindly and nodded. "If you want."

"Thank you sir..."

he smiled and took him to a tavern ordering them both some food and drink. "My name is Alder."

Cara watched Alder crouched on a nearby rooftop. He smells divine, I wonder what his blood tastes like.

She saw him take the boy into a tavern

The boy followed Alder, and looked around hungrily.

Soon the food came and he handed him one heaping bowl of stew and a mug of hot tea

Cara jumped down from the rooftop and entered the tavern, one would have to be very observant to know she was a vampire.

Alder smiled at the boy as he began to eat. He paused and followed Cara's movement from beneath the cowl of his cloak.

Cara stepped over to the bar and leaned her back against the bar. She had her large sword still strapped across her back and a normal long sword on her right hip.

The boy ate hungrily.

"Slow down, you might choke. I won't take it away so eat slowly." Alder said turning back to the boy but keeping an eye on Cara

Cara smiled at the boy without revealing her fangs.

Alder frowned slightly but focused on the boy.

Cara turned her eyes to scan the bar for any threat, but kept Alder in her peripheral.

The boy slowed down, but still ate hungrily.

Alder looked at him with a smile. "What's your name?"

Mya hurried into the tavern, and dashed into the shadows.

Alder looked toward her concerned, he didn't like people in trouble.

"My name is Danny...sir..." the young boy said.

Mya moved deeper into the shadows, looking for the back way out of the tavern.

She felt drawn toward one of the patrons.

Alder turned back to regard Danny,. "My name is Alder."

Danny smiled. "Thank you Alder..."

Mya peaked around some of the items that sat in the shadows, and peered around for the source.

It lead to Alder.

He smiled. "Of course."

Mya blushed, and then pulled back into the shadows. She leaned back against the shadowed wall, holding her knees to her chest.

Alder looked to Danny. "Wait here okay?"

"Okay....Alder..." Danny said and went back to eating the food.

Mya pulled her legs closer to her chest and hide her face in her knees.

Alder walked over to her. "Are you alright miss?"

Mya nodded into her knees, not looking up.

"Are you sure?" He asked in concern. She could hear the concern

"I..." Mya looked up at Alder. "I had run into this guy... and he... scared me...."

"Did he hurt you?"

"He... backhanded me.... after I tried to say I was sorry for running into him...." she whispered.

Cara listened to Alder and Mya without moving from her location at the bar.

He looked at her concerned. "Are you alright now? I am sorry. He shouldn't have done that. Would you like to join my little friend and I for something to eat?" He asked kindly

"R...really...?" she asked softly.

He nodded with a smile. "If you wish. I will treat you."

Mya blushed as her stomach growled.

He lead her over to their table and ordered her food.

Mya blushed, looking down at the food. "Thank you..." she whispered.

He smiled and nodded. "This is Danny, Danny this is Mya."

Danny smiled at Mya. "Hi Mya..." he said through a mouth full of food.

Mya smiled softly. "Hi..."

Alder smiled and handed her some food. "Here."

"Thank you sir..." Mya said softly, taking the food, and starting to eat it quickly.

"Slow down...you might choke. I told Danny the same thing. You are welcome, please call me Alder though."

"It wouldn't be proper..." Mya whispered after she swallowed her food.

"What do you mean? It makes me feel more at ease and I am no lord."

"I'm just a street urchin..."

"And I am an outcast...everyone has worth."

"Not me..." she whispered.

"Yes you do."

She shook her head.

"Why do you believe that?"

"Because...I am am less than the earth...." she whispered.

"That is not true! Who said such a thing?"

"Everyone...." she whispered.

"They were wrong!"

Mya shrink in on herself, as he shouted.

He calmed himself. "I...forgive me...but they were wrong...no one should treat someone like that."

"But..." Mya shook her head. "I have to go..."

"Why? I...umm...want to know you."

Mya looked at him confused and unsure. "But..."

He blushed. "Umm...I feel drawn to you...and you need help..."

Mya blushed. "I...need help? Wh...why do you say that..." she whispered.

"Because you are running scared, you have no where to go and you need friends."

"I..I am not running...I'm living...as I have always..."

"But are you truly living? Or are you existing?"

"I...I don't know what you mean by that..."

"To live is to enjoy your life, to love, to have joy and friendship. To exist is merely to survive with no direction, no drive, nothing meaningful to keep you going."

"I...drive to survive..." she whispered, not wanting to give away that the love, joy, and friendship would be nice, though could never happen.

"Don't you want to live?"

"I..." Mya looked down.

He looked at her closely

"Alright...." she said softly. "I don't want to be a bother...."

"You aren't."

Mya looked up at him with a soft smile, but stopped as pain came across her face. A 'nice' bruise was forming on her cheek.

Far north in one of the great cities a lone woman walked down the street from the market early in the morning after finishing some food shopping. "Mmmm I love shopping in the morning you always get the best things" she giggled to herself as she headed home. The morning air was brisk as she strolled along in her long trench coat that was lined with fur for the collar and the wrists as well while she wore a pair of black gorgeous leather knee high boots which showed under her sweeping coat. It was moments like this that Asta could really admit that she was happy with her life even though she was frigid to the bone.

She felt a small tug at her coat

She turned to see what it was

A little boy with dirty brown hair and blue eyes around eight stood there. He was barefoot and shivering she could tell he was running a fever. "M...am? Please...can you...s..s..pare...food?" He managed through chattering teeth before he collapsed.

"Oh poor child" she whispered as she gently picked up his unconcious form. "I've got you young one" she picked him up and headed off to her home quickly, careful not to let him touch her skin. When she got there she headed inside and brought him to the couch in her livingroom. she went back to the door and closed and locked it then went back to the child grabbing some of the blankets off the couch pulling them over him. After words she went to the kitchen and grabbed a hotwater bottle then came back placeing it with him trying to warm him up. "Its alright young one you'll be ok." she said stroking his hair with her gloved hand.

he shivered as he slowly opened his eyes. "I...am sorry..."He whispered

"Shhh its alright young one" she said softly as she knelt there next to him.

"I...I'm T..Tommy."

"My name is Asta, Your safe here with me Tommy, I'm a friend" she smiled at him. "let me get you something to warm you up. She stood up and walked off to the other room to make him some hot chocolate.

"Thank you."

"Your welcome" she smiled back at him then went to her kitchen to get his Cocoa. It was a few minutes later. "Here I hope its not to hot for you" she said gently handing the cup to him careful he didn't burn himself on the cup.

He took it thankfully and sipped it. "Yum...it's really good. Umm...do you have something I can eat?" He whispered

"Yes of course let me see what I can find for you" she smiled at him then headed off to the kitchen again to make something for him, He would want a hearty meal he was so skinny and weak she wanted to make something good.

Tommy waited on the couch sipping the cocoa, his fever was starting to break but he was still pale.

She came back a little later with a plate of roasted meats, cheeses and bread. "Here you are, its not much but it should fill you up" she smiled as she set it down on the coffee table infront of the couch.

"Thank you." He started to eat it ravenously

"Why were you out on the streets Tommy?" she asked sweetly as she sat down in one of the chairs.

"I...have nowhere else to go..."

"Where are your parents?" she asked in a soft worried tone. Her heart ached at the thought that this little boy was on his own.

"They...don't want me...I...they threw me out..."

Asta couldn't help but gasp. "Oh how awful" she pulled him in a hug. "I know you don't know me Tommy but your more then welcome to stay here with me" she said holding him in that loving hug that he had never felt from his mother.

He looked up at her in surprise tears in his eyes. "Really?! Oh thank you...can...can I...call you mama?"

Asta smiled lovingly. "Of course Tommy you can call me whatever you like. I just have one little rule for you is all." she said as she looked down at him.

"What's that mama?"

She couldn't help but smile at him calling her Mama. "Well Mama is special in a way sweetheart but unfortunately its not in a good kind of way." Gently she took his hand and put it against her face which was so cold to the touch then she pulled it back she could partially control her body temperature but it wasn't perfect. "Mama is always really cold sweetheart and you could touch my skin there because I was focusing on it but sometimes Mama's skin can get really cold that it could hurt you honey. So be careful I just don't want to hurt you on accident sweetheart" she said with real worry in her eyes that he could see. "I hope that doesn't make you not want to stay here Tommy" she said in a sad tone hoping that he still wanted to stay with her.

"Ok mama...can I hug you?"

She couldnt help but smile. "Of course Sweety" she gave him a big hug.

He hugged back. "Thank you for being my mama."

"Your so welcome sweetheart." She said lovingly as she held him. Looking down at him she smiled. "Now lets get you all cleaned up." She rubbed her thumb over the dirt on his cheek gently rubbing off a little bit of the dirt. "I want to see the handsome little man under all this grime" she said sweetly

He smiled and nodded. Once he began to get clean she noticed his hair, which had appeared to be a dirty brown was really vibrant red.

"You have beautiful hair Tommy its not often that I've seen hair this color" Asta said with a smile as she washed it while he sat in her big tub enjoying his wonderful bubble bath.

He smiled. "Really? I had people make fun of it..."

"Yes really, its a very beautiful color, they were just jealous of how vibrant and unique it is" she smiled down at him as she scooped up a small bucket of water. "Close your eyes Tommy I don't want soap to get in your eyes"

He closed his eyes like she asked

"Here it comes" she said and gently poured the water over his head as she washed him.

He sat patiently as she cleaned him.

When she was done washing him she unplugged the tub and pulled him out of the water wrapping him in a towel. "Now your even cuter when your clean" she smiled at him and rubbed him dry in his towel.

He smiled. "Thanks mama."

"Your always welcome sweetheart" she smiled down at him. "Hmmm now I don't want you getting back into your dirty clothes again let me see if I can rig something for pajama's for tonight." She picked him up in her arms and carried him off to her bedroom sitting him down on her bed. "Stay here sweety" she began to go through her closet and drawers. She found a large Grey T shirt that she wore when she was cleaning. "Here we go you can wear this tonight" she pulled it on over his head. "There you go cutie" she giggled and picked him up again keeping the towel around him. She went back to the bathroom and sat him down again before picking up his dirty clothes from the floor.

"Thank you mama."

"No need to keep thanking me sweetheart" Asta said with a smile looking over at him. (What kind of technology do they have in this world? I kind of forgot since we havent played it in so long) (It's fantasy based so more dark ages stuff)

He smiled back. "I just...no one has shown me such kindness.."

"I promise that the kindness I show you is all true and you'll always receive it" she smiled and picked him up again carrying him off. They headed to a back room with a large drum of water where she washed her clothes. Setting his clothes down she then headed of to her bedroom noticing he looked tired. "Now I know your tired little man so why don't you take a nap?" she sat on the bed with him.

He nodded. "Mamma? You won't give me back will you?"

Asta focused and made sure her lips weren't that cold and leaned in softly kissing his forehead. "I promise sweetheart, I'm not going to give you back Tommy" She smiled.

He hugged her. "Thank you mamma...they aren't nice.''

"Who arent nice?" she asked watching him curiously.

"The ones I asked you not to give me back to...my masters...:"

Anger filled her that someone could use this sweet boy as a slave. "I promise sweetheart your safe here with me and you will never be back with those people" she stroked his hair letting him cuddle against her.

He soon fell asleep.

Asta smiled and gently tucked him into her bed. "Sleep well little one" She whispered before kissing his forehead. Then she headed off into the other room to wash his clothes so he had something clean to wear tomorrow so she could take him out to buy him some more clothes. A sigh escaped her. She was happy to have tommy in her life now. She was worried though and prayed she would be able to protect him, that she would be able to care for him. She gasped a little bit as the water frosted over a little bit. pulling her hands from the water she waited for it to warm up. She looked at her hands moving her fingers breaking the ice free that had formed. This was her only chance of having a child and she was thankful to the gods that they had given it to her. Tears filled her eyes and she gently brushed them away. When she knew the water was fine again she finished washing his clothes then hung them on a clothes line she had specially made for the little room. "There good for tomorrow" she smiled to herself as she went to go make herself some tea.

She heard some whimpers come from the room Tommy was in

She hurried into the room "Tommy are you alright?" she asked worriedly.

He was tossing and turning in his sleep. "Don't hurt me...I will...be good..."

Asta went to him and gently pulled him into her arms stroking his red hair. "Shhhh baby, Mamma's got you" she whispered rocking him tenderly back and forth humming softly to him as her mother used to so very long ago.

He woke and cried into her. "They had me...they were beating me..."

"I've got you sweetheart no one is hurting you, Mamma is here holding you tight protecting you" she stroked his hair.

He slowly relaxed. "I...it...was a nightmare?"

"Yes sweetheart it was a nightmare, your alight." She continued to stroke his hair.

He nodded and snuggled against her

Asta leaned back against the pillows as she stroked his hair and hummed softly to him a very old lullaby her mother used to sing to her.

He smiled happily

Asta smiled as she hummed to him. Stroking his hair softly she smiled as he snuggled against her. "I'll always protect you Tommy" she whispered against his hair as he snuggled against her.

"Love you mamma."

"I love you too Tommy" she smiled down at him. She felt so happy to have met this little child.

He smiled

She smiled back then gave a big yawn. "Oh heavens now I'm getting sleepy" she lean back more into the pillows feeling exhaustion close at hand.

He snuggled against her

Asta couldn't help but smile. Gently she kissed the top of his head "Sleep well Tommy" Leaning back against her pillows she soon drifted off fast asleep.

She dreamed of having a family, she saw Tommy and the shadowy outline of a man and some young children

The dream was wonderful thing to see something she wished she could believe in. But she knew there was no way she could ever have a family for many reasons. The dream suddenly was surrounded by ice covering the image of warmth and happiness and bringing back the chill of reality

She woke with morning light hitting her face

She realized she was alone in her bed. "Tommy?" she called out worriedly.

He peeped his head into the room. He had what looked like egg on his face. "I sowwy...I tried to make you breakfast..."

Asta couldn't help but smile. "oh Tommy" She giggled and climbed out of bed going over to him picking him up in her arms. "You little cutie. Thank you" she carried him off to the kitchen to see what the damage he had done.

There was a mess on the counter as well as her cook pot. It was obvious he had overcooked some of the food and undercooked other parts. Egg shell lay on the counter as did some bread rolls. "I am sorry...the inn keepers always make it look easy..."

"Its ok sweety you did your best" she kissed his cheek and got a wet rag gently wiping his face off with it. "Thank you for trying so hard. Once we get all of these cleaned up sweety I can start teaching you how to cook, would you like that?" she asked looking down at him with a smile.

He nodded enthusiastically.

"Alright lets get to work on cleaning." Pulling her sleeves up she lead him over to there large mess. "I'll scrub the dishes and you dry them how does that sound?" she asked looking down at him.

He nodded

"Wonderful here you go" she handed him a dry dishtowel then got to work on scrubbing the dishes he had used.

He helped the best he could

"Your doing great Tommy" she smiled at him in a very motherly way as she helped him where he needed it. Once they were done she got everything ready. "Alright now that everything is clean lets make some breakfast does that sound good?" she asked looking down at him with a smile.

He nodded. "Can I watch?"

"Of course sweetheart" she playfully tapped him on the nose. "And you can help"

"I will try..."

"Trying is how we learn, do you think I just learned in a heart beat how to cook? nope I didnt I had to try real hard to learn" she smiled at him. "Lets have some fun" She smiled and began to pull out everything for they're breakfast from her ice box she kept.

He watched her carefully trying to mimic what he saw

"Thats right just like that Tommy" she said as she taught him how to gently crack an egg.

He tried to do his best

It wasn't long after when they had a nice breakfast of some bread eggs and a bit of sausage and fruit as well "you did a great job Tommy, you sure you've never done this before?" she asked sweetly before laying a kiss on the top of his head.

He smiled. "No...it looks wonderful."

"I'm so glad now eat, afterward we're going to head out and I'm going to buy you some new clothes" she said sweetly.

"Ok...is that alright?"

"Of course it is why wouldn't that be alright?" she asked curiously looking down at him.

"Because I would cost you money..."

"Tommy I want to spend my money on you, because I love you and I want you to be happy. You deserve whatever you want" she said in a kind motherly tone placing her hands on his cheeks.

He hugged her

Asta hugged him back tight. "Your such a sweet little angel Tommy I want you to know that." she had just met him the day before and yet she already felt so protective over him.

He smiled. "I love you too momma."

"Lets eat up before breakfast gets cold." She kissed his cheek then let him go leading him over to the table. While he sat she grabbed two bottles of milk she had bought yesterday at the market. Opening the glass bottles she set one down for Tommy then herself and sat down in her seat. "Dig in and eat as much as you want sweety" she smiled as she began to eat her own food.

He smiled and started to eat happily

Asta sat there with a smile on her face as she watched him enjoy himself. This was what he deserved, a good home with someone who treated him right. She promised herself that she was going to raise him as best as she could.

He smiled. "Thank you momma."

"Your welcome sweetheart" she patted his head. "Now why don't you go wash up in the bathroom a little bit while I do the dishes and then we'll head out" she smiled down at him.

He nodded and hurried to do as she asked

In all of her life she never thought she would be living something so homey. Letting out a small giggle she hurried and washed the dishes.

He came back and held something behind his back. "Momma?"

"Yes sweetheart?" she asked as she finished with the last dish and turned looking at him.

"I have a present for you."

"Oh and what might that be?" she asked playfully.

He held out his hands and opened them carefully. He gently held a baby rabbit. "I found it in the snow..."

"awww" she smiled and gently took the little rabbit. She found a towel and wrapped it around the little bunny. "He must be so cold" she walked over and sat down holding the little guy in her arms trying to warm him up.

Tommy smiled and sat next to her gently petting it

"What do you want to name it Tommy?" she asked sweetly looking down at him watching him pet the little bunny.

"Umm...I want you to choose."

"How about Snowball?" 'she asked as she put the little guy on his head.

He giggled and smiled. "Ok." Snowball started to hope off his head and he gently caught him.

"Careful with him now" she giggled and smiled as she stood and went to go look for something to keep snowball in and other things for their new bunny friend..

Tommy played with him while she did that

She was at a loss on the cage/pen part of it unable to find anything but she couldnt have the bunny running around her house freely. But knowing it was probably hungry she sliced up a little bit of carrot. "Here Tommy feed your little friend these." she smiled.

He started to do so

"Wonderful" she kissed the top of Tommy's head in a very motherly way as she found and put together a little cage. She grabbed a towel she didn't use anymore and placed it in as the lining of the cage. While also grabbing a couple of bowls one she filled with water the other she filled with a few pieces of lettuce for the little guy. "Here we are all ready for Snowball" she smiled at Tommy.

He smiled and gently lowered snowball into the cage

Asta patted snowball ontop of his head gently. "Good little guy" she smiled.

It turned into a strange furred animal that looked like a cross between a chinchilla and a bird with feathered wings. It also had a silver horn on its forehead. It was making a happy humming purr sound.

Tommy's eyes widened. "It's a Chanso!"

"A Chanso?" she asked confused.

"They are able to take many forms...when it shows its true self like this it means it will bring happiness to those who see it. Umm...but they don't eat lettuce. They eat sugary things and fruit."

"My you know allot about them" she smiled and patted his head. "Let me see what I have" she looked through her cabinets and found some nightberries she had bought at the market a few days before. Very sweet to the taste. taking out the little bowl she replaced the lettuce with the berries and placed that in Snowball's cage instead.

He began to eat them happily.

"I was in charge of taking care of some...but I wonder what he was doing out there alone..."

"He must have escaped, but I'm glad we were able to rescue him like I'm so glad I was able to rescue you" she smiled at Tommy"

He smiled. "He is like me isn't he?"

"Yes he is sweetheart" she kissed the top of his head gently.

He yawned

"You tired sweetheart?" she asked looking down at him.

"A little.'

"Lets get you to bed my little prince" gently she picked him up in her arms and carried him. Gently she tucked him into bed and sat down next to him. "You want me to stay here until you fall asleep?" she asked as she stroked his hair.

He nodded. "Tell me a story?"

Asta smiled. "Alright, what kind of story are you interested in?" she laid down next to him propping her head up on her hand.

"Umm...one with a happy ending."

"Hmmm" she tapped her finger on her lips. "Well there once was a baby dragon he was very adventurous and was always exploring. One day there was a little creature that caught his eye. Being as adventurous as he was he decided to follow the little creature. Without realizing it hours passed. When he realized he didnt know where he was, he was alone deep in the heart of the forest. The baby dragon cried and cried and cried. Scared and alone in the dark woods..." she smiled seeing him look at her with wonder in his eyes.

"Than what?"

"Well as night began to fall the little dragon heard something in the woods. This scared him, he didnt know what it was. But as he was about to run, the brush pushed aside and there was his mother. The little baby ran over to her and said 'Momma I was so scared how did you find me?' and looked up at his mother who replied. 'I am your mother and no matter how far apart we are, I will always be there for you to protect you and comfort you.' with that the two of them headed home together." she kissed the top of his head.

He smiled. "Will you be like that to me?"

She nodded "I promise Tommy with all my heart that no matter where you are or how far apart we are I will always be there to protect you and comfort you. I will be your Momma dragon always" she stroked his hair an smiled.

He smiled and kissed her cheek than he closed his eyes to sleep

She hummed softly to him as she stayed there with him. Soon she heard his breathing deepen as he fell asleep. "Sleep well my strong little dragon" she kissed the top of his head, tucked him in then headed off to the other room to check on Snowball and make sure he was doing well.

He too was sleeping

Asta smiled and went into the livingroom sitting on her couch. She had to wait a little longer to take Tommy to get some new clothes and toys but it was alright. She was tired and she slid laying down on her couch soon drifting off fast asleep.

She heard something as though something had fallen

She jumped awake and was to her feet in but moments. She wove her way off to where the sound had come from.

She saw someone slipping through the shadows

Quietly she grabbed her dagger off of the bookshelf as she walked by. She snuck up on the figure from behind. When she was close enough she slammed her foot into their backside pinning their chest flat against the wall and held her dagger right against their spine. "You have ten seconds to tell me who the fuck you are and why your here?"
